Wakura Onsen has amassed a history of 1,200 years since it first opened. The history of Wakura Onsen is that of continuing to protect and nurture this well-known Wakura hot spring. The allure of Wakura Onsen, which has been patronized by many people from all over Japan as the only ocean hot spring in Hokuriku, is that of a top class hot spring boasting an abundance of steaming hot water. After enjoying a hot spring bath treat yourself to a drink or ice-cream in the after bath salon. In the courtyard is a tree fern, mokuseishida, a type of fern which has been around for over 100 million years. The lounge area is dotted with traditional crafts on display which connect the past to the present day. Relax, and enjoy the surroundings after your hot spring bath.
With over 1,200 years of history since its opening, Wakura Onsen is the hot spring which typifies Hokuriku and Ishikawa. The clear, hot spring waters gush forth unceasingly, forced through crystals contained within the granite deep underground. Because of the high levels of salt contained within the water, we recommend people with sensitive skin enter the bath gradually until their bodies become accustomed to the water.
Rinse your body with hot water before getting into the bath. Bathe in the water for about 3–10 minutes at a time, and as your body gets accustomed to the heat you can bathe for longer. You are less likely to catch a chill after a bath if you don’t wash off the spring water. However, if you are the type of person whose skin gets easily irritated from the substances contained within the hot spring water, then it is better to wash it all off with fresh water or wipe yourself carefully. It’s also a good idea to stay warm, rest for a while, and take on some fluid to stop dehydrating.
